Fearless
"'Stand clear, put up your sword;let me but taste of blood. I shall speak true.'"

- At this part of the Book you can tell Odysseus is fearless and is up for any challenge. No matter what the task is he will complete it. He knows that he is a leader and if he were to show a little bit of fear his crew would give up and accept defeat. Odysseus knows this, that's why he will never show fear. He is a leader and an example for his crew.

Thinking Ahead

-A smart person is someone who plan's for the future. In this quote Odysseus shows his ability to think ahead in situations. He knew that if he were to try and hurt the beast he would be attacked by the other Cyclopes so he tricked the beast into thinking his name was Nohbdy. This trick would give Odysseus time to escape the island in order to return home. This is another aspect why he is a true hero. He takes per cautions when needed for his own safety.

The Easy Way out

- A true hero never gives up, they keep working until they have achieved what they set out to do. In this quote Odysseus shows a sign of suicide. To him it seems like nothing is going his way. He doesn't see the point of life if nothing is going his way. If Odysseus were to give up he wouldn't just be letting himself down, his crewman would also be effected by him giving up. If Odysseus there leader were to give up they would have no one to follow and think it is alright to give up. This is why it's always best to never give up. You should always work hard as you can.

Brains over Brawn
"so, Cyclopes, no weak coward it was whose crew you bent to devour there in your vaulted cave- you with your brutal force! Your filthy crimes came down on your own head, you shameless cannibal, daring to eat your guests in your own house- so Zeus and the other gods have paid you back!" - page 226, line 531-536
-At this part of the story Odysseus tricks the beast multiple times. First he told the beast that his ship was wrecked in a storm so that Cyclopes couldn't kill the rest of his men. He also gets Cyclopes drunk so he could easily hurt the beast without having to fight. Then he tells the beast that his name is no body because he knew that it would buy him some time for his escape. This quote is Odysseus's victory speech. Odysseus shows us that your brain can be your best weapon. He knew that he couldn't out fight Cyclopes so he used his mind instead of his muscle. In this quote he also says that what he has done is Cyclopes punishment from the gods for all the filthy crimes he has done.

Heroes Aren't Perfect
"Cyclopes- if any man on the face of this earth should ask you who blinded you, shamed you so- say Odysseus, raider of cities, he gouged out you eye, Latertes' son who makes his home in Ithaca!"

- Odysseus is a great example of a hero. He is very intelligent, strong and fearless. in this quote Odysseus shows that he isn't perfect. now that the beast cyclopes knows who Odysseus really is and where to find him he will travel to Ithaca to seek revenge on Odysseus. This is putting his people in great danger. He had the beast fooled by using the name "nobody" but Odysseus wants to be known as a hero that tricked the great Cyclopes. He doesn't realize that Cyclopes will come to Ithaca to get revenge on Odysseus and will kill or eat anyone that gets in his way. This is a great example of how heroes aren't perfect.

Chasing a Dream
“You are never to old to set another goal or to dream a new dream”
It doesn’t matter how old you are, you can achieve any goal you set your mind too. This quote tells you to never give up on something. If you work hard enough you can do anything you want. The harder you work the better the pay off will be. For example, if you work really hard in school this year it pays off in the long run. The harder you worked this year the better the school. Even when your older even retired if you have a dream you should always try and chase it because you never know what can happen. And if you fail so what, you get on with your life and try to succeed at another one of your dreams. Never give up it will pay off in the long run.

"As you get older, it is harder to have heroes, but it is sort of necessary"
To me this quote is somewhat true. When you’re younger it's very important that you have heroes to look up too. In my opinion when you get older you become your hero because you have idolized them your whole life. a hero teaches you how to handle situations. It is necessary to always have a hero because they are usually older and wiser than you. They give you ideas on how to solve problems.

Gold, Midas, Greed.
Does greed always overcome?
Greed is something that overcomes you without even realizing it. Most people become greedy for money, jobs, desires, and needs. I think that it depends on the person’s attitude and outlook on life.
In the myth Midas the king shows greed by asking Dionysus to grant him the power to turn everything to gold. In this situation greed over]comes king Midas. He does learn from his lesson in the end.
